Visitation by Prof. Geoff and Dr. Maya form James Cook University
On 11-13th July 2014, Reef Guardian was visited by Prof. Geoff Jones and Dr. Maya Srinivasan from the School of Marine and Tropical Biology, James Cook University Townsville, Australia. They spent several days at SIMCA to inspect on the conditions of the reef fishes and corals around Lankayan and Billean Islands for the potential field course conduct with the postgraduate students from James Cook University in the future.
Visitation by Dr. Carsten from Cardiff University
On 1st – 2nd April 2014, Cardiff University’s marine field course coordinator for marine field course, Dr. Carsten Muller had paid a visit to SIMRC and its surroundings to assess the potential study to be carried out for the coming field course, which was scheduled on 12th – 24th June 2014. This field course, unfortunately, was cancelled for this year due to the advice by Foreign and Commonwealth Office that forbids education trips by UK citizen at the islands of Sabah’s East Coast.
First Steering Committee Meeting
The steering committee for Suguds Island Marine Research Centre was formed during the first steering committee meeting on 11th March 2014 at Sabah Wildlife Department headquarters in Kota Kinabalu. Two members were selected from each respective Sabah Wildlife Department, Reef Guardian and Cardiff University to form the committee.
