ECO-TOURISM

Resort operator in SIMCA, Lankayan Island Dive Resort (LIDR) operates by following to the environmentally conscientious principles. Upon arrival to Lankayan Island, all visitors are briefed on SIMCA's rules and regulations. Conservation forms which enlist activities that are banned on the island are distributed amongst visitors. Any activities that are against SIMCA's rules will be stopped by Reef Guardian enforcement team. Information sheets on SIMCA and Reef Guardian are placed in every resort room in the Marine Kit education package to seek for cooperation from visitors to minimise their impacts to environment.

Reef Guardian implements Green Diver policy at Lankayan Island. All scuba divers are briefed before each dive, for safety and also to emphasise on “no fins landing”, “no coral touching”, “no harassing on marine creatures”, “no collecting of marine specimen” and “no littering” policies.

Signages are also installed at the shallow reefs of Lankayan to remind snorkelers to avoid damaging corals. Mooring buoys are used to secure boat and ships to avoid reef damage by anchor.

At times, Reef Guardian invites visitors to participate in underwater cleaning activities, such as removing fishing net from the reef, and removing of coral eating Crown-of-Thorn starfish.
